I have been in the lookout for a day cream for quite some time now. My requirements were simple. To not overly dry my skin yet give it a matte non-oily finish. I saw this new product in the supermarket aisle, Gokul Sandiva Fairness Cream. Gokul santol talcum powder is a household name in many families down south with its distinctive perfume. This cream is a new launch from the company.
The cream is attractively priced at 41 rupees for a 25 gram pack. The Packaging is also quite good.
The Cream's main ingredients are Real sandalwood,Milk protein & Rose extract and it promises 3 times longer lasting fairness and 2 times brighter skin. The cream is a sandal yellow colour and the texture is quite creamy. I did not find any added colours in the main ingredient list,so this may be a good thing indicating the colour of the cream is the colour of the natural ingredients added to it.
My Experience with the cream - First,The fragrance,It is the SAME as the Gokul santol talc's smell! Not being a great fan of the perfume,It is a bit obtrusive and kind of old-world for a new age cream like this. You can get used to the fragrance after a while but it is still striking.
Second-the texture is quite nice, not too oily and disappears into the skin leaving a dry finish. For people with oily skin like mine,I think this cream will suit just fine. The Cream does improve your complexion and gives a matte finish. So worries of skin turning oily after a while is ruled out. In this regard, I think the cream scores.
Next- The promises of longer lasting fairness and brighter skin. Though the skin does give you fairness,I am not sure if it is permanent. And it is quite confusing if the manufacturers DO want to market it as a cream which gives permanent fairness, unlike the other creams in the market, because the packaging only says “ All Day Fairness”.
The product is fairly good – Can be used as a nice day cream instead of make up(at least this is natural). It gives a fair finish to the skin. It lasts all day. It does not over dry the skin yet leaves it non-oily. Seems to be all natural with less number of chemical ingredients and colour.
The Cream's fragrance is a let down and quite old fashioned and strong. The longer Effects of the cream should be good considering the ingredients, but it is not marketed that way(might be a deliberate step).Anyhow considering the price of the product,I would say it is worth it.
